If the volume control would be shown in the system tray (like the nm- applet for example) instead of being its own applet, a middle click could be used to mute the sound. I wonder if somebody has ever removed it from his panel? If no it could just be shown in the systray and a middle click could

thank you for your bug report, you can use your keyboard multimedia keys to do there, the left click is used to open the slider, the middle click to move the applet and the right click to open the context menu so they can't be used to do something else now, closing the bug that's not one **
