I'll download the alpha 4 CD of Karmic and try this out using the live CD since I don't really have the space to install a test version on my computer and it would be foolish for me to try and upgrade my stable OS to Karmic at this point. At this point I've more or less given up on gst-launch0.10

No, the movie is a commercial DVD that I own and I'm trying to rip. Oddly, it only seems to be this movie. If I use gst-launch0.10 with another movie (say, Snatch) it works just fine. I am able to rip The Patriot using VLC, but not gst-launch0.10. So this bug's priority can be set to low since I
