I'll download the alpha 4 CD of Karmic and try this out using the live
CD since I don't really have the space to install a test version on my
computer and it would be foolish for me to try and upgrade my stable OS
to Karmic at this point.
At this point I've more or less given up on gst-launch0.10

Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been

No, the movie is a commercial DVD that I own and I'm trying to rip.
Oddly, it only seems to be this movie. If I use gst-launch0.10 with

libgstdvdread.so but the packages I told you to install are not sufficient to
debug this library.
