Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-19-openvz

Hi,

I ran into a very annoying kernel bug. I know that there are several
similar bug reports, but none with the openvz-kernel.

Under heavy IO the machine just freezes and the console is flooded with
soft lockup messages:

Oct 14 11:02:22 test-server kernel: [ 1705.659514] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#4
stuck for 11s! [cc1:24507]

In fact the server is still pingable, but not usable :-(

Configuration:

Server: Sun Fire X4240
CPUs: 2x Quad-Core Processor 2356
RAM: 32 GByte RAM
Latest BIOS.

OS: Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS Server
Kernel: linux-image-2.6.24-19-openvz (2.6.24-19.41)

Using different boot options, like "noapic", "highres=off" or "nohz=off"
was unsuccessful.

I cannot try the latest kernel 2.6.27 cause I need an openvz-kernel.

Maybe someone is able to fix this!

Thanks!
Alexander
