Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development
release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .
If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It

easy fix that worked to fix my low sound / volume level in intrepid was.
pulseaudio - k (kill the pulse audio server)
alsamixer , now it shows all controls instead of just the master

I've recompiled alsa-*-1.0.18rc3 and now it works! But first of
compiling, alsamixer show me only pulseadio volume managemente, now, it
show the old volume managemente with ALSA package.
