I've experimented a bit, and probably i've found where the problem is.
If the proxy configuration is as in the image attached, i got the error
i've reported. If i set no proxy, all is ok.

Hm, it appears to me this is part of the greater proxy brokeness then...
which hopefully gets fixed in time for Kubuntu 9.04, nothing we can do
right now unfortunately.

You're right, i missed some useful information...
I get this error when i directly write the ftp address on location bar (in
konquror or dolphin). I've tried to get to the address by clicking on the
address displayed in a konsole session (right click-open link)
All this with konqueror/dolphin
If you try to connect via a console it works? ... i.e. via the ftp
console application

Yes. If i open i terminal and try ftp example.site.com it works as
expected.
