I have different hardware running Karmic -- EeePC1000 with an Intel Mobile
945GME Express -- and I cannot recreate the crash. The slider on the
brightness applet works fine.
The nc6120 is running Lucid and I cannot recreate the crash on it either, but
the brightness applet icon has the NO
Since this report have a long time without activity, could you check (if
is possible) in latest Ubuntu Karmic version if this issue is still
happening? Additionally, I tried to reproduce this issue in Karmic (up
to date) and I cannot reproduce it.

I get a similar behaviour on my laptop with an intel x3100 graphics card
and an intel chipset. Really annoying but the screen brightness
adjustment keys work so I can use them instead.

I've since upgraded to Jaunty on that partition so the version of gnome-
power-manager is 2.23.0-0ubuntu12. The condition still exists. I did
not get a crash this time because I waited for the long pauses to end
before restarting.
