I have some information here.
I installed v4l-conf and here is what I find upon running
$ v4l-info v4l.info
ioctl VIDIOCGCHAN: Invalid argument
ioctl VIDIOCGTUNER: Invalid argument
ioctl VIDIOCGAUDIO: Invalid argument
ioctl VIDIOCGFBUF: Invalid argument
Camorama shows a the IOCTL errors often.
Any inputs anyone? Here is what I tried after that:
I figured that the way I had tried to install UVC was not correct, so I
installed it by following the instructions on this page:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Webcam
After that I also tried adding it to my /etc/modules
It still does not
Once again, the camera is working. I can take pictures and I can also use
luvcvideo to see what the camera can get as input. But, Video recording in
cheese does not work. This implies that video recording is broken. The
driver is fine. Can someone please help.
I also tried one more thing today -
First, it is not a duplicate. Second, the solution proposed in the
earlier bug is not only to change the resolution, but to also install
uvcvideo. But I demand, where is this module in the Ubuntu repositories.
If it is required for cheese webcam to work, how did Ubuntu,
irresponsibly ship the

I have found out it is ICH8 Audio that is making it not work as in Sound
Recorder it doesn't work either, the length just
goes up way too much (like 12 hours for less than an actuall second of
recording)

What webcam are you using? Are you fully up to date? This cannot be
reproduced with a fully up-to-date Intrepid install using the webcam
built into an HP dv2000.
