The vboxvideo driver is shipped by Ubuntu; it's in the package virtualbox-ose-guest-utils in the universe repo. I'm having this exact problem with the Ubuntu-packaged driver, but compiling and installing the guest additions provided by VirtualBox worked fine. -- unable to start X using Sun
