thank you for your bug report, that's likely a local libglib
installation you did in the local directory which hijack the ubuntu
version and not a distribution bug, could you run ldd
/usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0 and copy the log to a comment?

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ldd /usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0
linux-gate.so.1 = (0xb80df000)
libpangocairo-1.0.so.0 = /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0 (0xb8033000)
libpango-1.0.so.0 = /usr/lib/libpango-1.0.so.0
the log indeed shows that you installed local versions which are older than the
ubuntu ones and creating the issue, you can uninstall those to get your system
working again correct
libgio-2.0.so.0 = /usr/local/lib/libgio-2.0.so.0 (0xb7f16000)
