I have the same bug.
It's very annoying, the priority should be set to "high".
I only have People which also have Pidgin, so I cannot confirm if it only
happens for Pidgin users.

I belive the problem is given when your friend is using pidgin. The
window is not 'pop-uped' when using gtalk or gmail chat window.

Aye, the problem seems to be of an intermittent nature.
Had it happen to me again a few times.
And given that I am not the only one who experienced the problem I guess we can
treat it as confirmed. (albeit we have no clue what exactly is wrong)
It is certainly low priority but I cannot edit the
ja, weird behavior. have the same (intrepid / pidgin 2.5.2) with one of my
buddies.
chat window for this one buddy popped up. This buddy seems to ignore
preferences settings (hide new conversations - always).

weird behavior of the windows popping up stopped right after me
reporting the bug.. weird... maybe it was caused by me fiddling with the
preferences settings and switching it from 'always' to 'never' and back
again? Well I will set it to incomplete until I have some more
conclusive info.
