Public bug reported:

Testing 8.10beta. 
Plug n phone, select "auto mobile broadband" in NetworkManager, and after a few 
seconds, system freezes completely. (not just X)
Using Nokia Symbian phone via USB, loads cdc_acm module. On Thinkpad X40.
Get "bad CDC descriptors" in log, but its always been that way.
I can successfully get a 3G internet connection using pon/pppd .
