need to connect to kerberos secured website, this feature is essential.

the default ubuntu browser is firefox so options are there to deal with
bugs there until fix those or to stop shipping the software in ubuntu
since you think it's too buggy

I suspect it's just a missing feature in whatever HTTP backend that is
enabled in the webkit code. They are authentication methods beyond
Basic.
NTLM is for Windows networks. It's a challenge/response method for doing
integrated domain authentication (the web page automatically know who
you are

that seems an upstream issue, letting somebody who has a clue about
those sending the bug to bugzilla.gnome.org
