I have this too, with a Intel 945GM (on a Sony Vaio).
Intrepid updated from Ubuntu, and i *think* i didn't have it previously,
but i'm not really sure.

I installed Arch with KDE 4.1 on this Intel-based machine too, and saw
the same effect in KDE. This makes me think the problem is most likely
in the xserver or the intel driver.
