Dunno if this is relevant here but, on my Dell Inspiron 1721, same thing
happens. I can see th Access Points but, cannot connect with any type
of WPA... just WEP keys.

Confirm with Ubuntu 9.04 and all recent updates. I use wicd and Broadcom
STA driver. All is fine if the network has no encryption, but with wpa
connection fails. In wicd preferences I select wext driver, because wpa-
supplicant seems to be compiled without STA driver support. I think It's
