Bugs, which is
Changing to 176x144 worked after forcibly closing cheese. Using the
preferences dialog, I set the new resolution. When I pressed OK, cheese
hung. I forced it to quit and restarted it. Now cheese and Skype work
fine.

properties menu to 176x144would give you video?
