Gnah. I am hit by the same thing, on the same HW in a notebook. On
Ubuntu 10.10, with upstream-PPA kernel 2.6.38. However, I cannot reopen
the bug.

issue in the current Ubuntu release, Jaunty Jackalope 9.04. To reopen
the bug, click on the current status, under the Status column, and
change the status back
Monitor the "Dirty" values in " cat /proc/meminfo" ... if the values
remain high (... are not cleaned frequently enough) then the problem
might be the "pdflush" configuration.

graylion has the ATI SB700/SB800 [1002:4391]

I can easily reproduce the bug by simply initiating heavy disk activity
such as copying multiple files simultaneously.

I have also found that any kind of audio activity (skype, last.fm) will
reasonably quickly result in a few of those ata error messages in syslog
and a hang.
