So I cleared the Mirror Screens tick box in the Screen Resolution dialogue, and now dual head works (there was no 1600x1200 resolution available for the external screen, however, until I increased the size of the virtual screen in xorg.conf). But I don't see how to turn off xinerama mode, and get
