Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-firmware

Hi,

I've upgraded from kubuntu 8.04 to 8.10 via adept upgrade tool. After
the upgrade, my wireless card stopped working.

sudo modprobe ipw2200 says the following in dmesg:

[ 2060.300188] ieee80211_crypt: unregistered algorithm 'NULL'
[ 2065.393989] ieee80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'NULL'

I see the file in /lib/firmware, however it doesn't work. I tried symlinking
and copying it under /lib/firmware/2.6.27-7-generic/
but neither worked.

The driver actually loads after the pause, but I have trouble connecting to
some networks. Network manager manages to connect to unencrypted wifi networks,
while configuration using /etc/network/interfaces works for a WPA network. A
PEAP enabled network is not working either way.
Prior to the upgrade everything wifi related worked, no conf files have been
changed.

Forgot to mention, this report is very similar to #268721, difference
being that I did get linux-firmware installed and that the newer kernel
version was installed automatically.
