I have the same problem. Same errors. It seems to go away when I remove
the backports-modules package. When I googled, it saw that Ubuntu isn't
the only distribution that has this problem. A fix was sent upstream,
and is present in the latest compat-wireless.

@Tim - the -11.12 backports allow authentication, but the connection
won't work. In dmesg I get:

work fine.

modules-2.6.27_2.6.27-11.12 in my PPA at http://ppa.launchpad.net/timg-
tpi/ubuntu. the i3945 driver is undergoing some upstream work and I may
have just updated from wireless-testing at a bad time.

Can I propose that we roll back the version to -11.10 and then stop
updating the drivers in intrepid? It is much better to accept that
certain models just won't work than to break machines where it worked
before.
Alternatively, newer versions could be provided in a PPA.

linux-backports-modules 2.6.27-11.11 breaks my wireless connections. I'm
using the iwl3945 driver. Downgrading to 2.6.27-11.10 fixed the problem.
In /var/log/debug I get a log of connection attempts which report
deauthentication reason 7, over and over until it quits trying:

My apologies, I filed bug #297390 before seeing this tracker bug.
In a nutshell, the ieee80211_crypt_{tkip|wep|ccmp} modules are get
inserted into the kernel, but the
lbm_cw_ieee80211_crypt_{tkip|wep|ccmp} modules should be inserted
instead. The result is that encrypted networking will no longer

lbm needs the patch from Bug 286285 for iwlagn too.
