Please use the mplayer version in the Ubuntu repositories:
2:1.0~rc2-0ubuntu17. This package does not depend on liblame0.

Thank you for your suggestion. However, I'm trying to use the latest
stable Smplayer (0.6.4) and it has been asking me for the latest mplayer
to run at full capacity.
I reported a bug because a simple package install (liblame0) was giving
me an error; if I can get liblame0 to install correctly,
