i had indeed added a second layout (german neo). removing it solved the problem.

thanks for the report, ctrl+s works fine as Save here, can you reproduce
the same with another new user created on your system? it seems that
your configuration is somewhat broken that's why you're getting those
keybinding changes, thanks.

thanks for your response.
this problem is not reproducable with a fresh user account. but thie wrong
keybindings are also present when i start gedit as root (sudo gedit). by the
way, my installation of intrepid is a upgrade from hardy.
even when i enable 'Editable menu shortcut keys' in
Menu
