Thanks for responding. There's no way I can feasibly test this any more
as it applies to two versions I no longer run on my system and a
configuration I've changed anyway (as reported). It can be closed in my
case and the only reason I left it as unresolved was in case it affected
anyone else.

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic .
If it remains an issu
After a lot of trial and error and research of the forums, this turned
out to be a simple fix: setting the cdrom drive to be master rather than
slave. I hope this might help anybody else out in a similar situation.

that Hardy handled this correctly whereas Intrepid did not.

After upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid and using the latest 2.6.27
kernel, my Liteon DH20A4P CD / DVD burner is not recognised. There is no
output in dmesg to indicate it is trying to be accessed.
