Binary package hint: grub
I installed successfully Ubuntu 8.10 on a PC that previously had a Ubuntu 7.10
/ Windows XP dual boot.
For a clean install I chose to format the root partition, and leave the others
untouched.
Ubuntu 8.10 boots correctly from Grub, but Windows XP is broken
(It says "Disk write error" the first time I select it, and after this error
any choice from the Grub menu results in a "wrong number of cylinders" kind of
error, and I have to physically reboot the PC to be able to boot again).
Apparently, no data was lost in the process ; all the data from the
linux home partition and the windows partition seem there.
I tried removing all the boot options manually for the Windows menu
entry in Grub, but to no avail.
Would this be a problem with the default Grub options, by any chance ?
