Beagle, the search software, is no longer included in Ubuntu. Unrelated
genetic analysis software named beagle has now been uploaded to Ubuntu's
Does pdftotext manage to produce any output from the file? I've got a
lot of PDFs that it doesn't seem to handle and I suspect this is why
they're not being indexed.

I seem to have this problem, too. Searching for a term I know is in
quite a few of my PDFs it only found references in related HTML files.
The PDFs titles were indexed. just not their texts.
It could be that the install is only a couple days old and Beagle might
simply still be indexing as the

I've installed Beagle on Intrepid, and I couldn't reproduce your issue!
I've tried to search a word contained in a pdf file and it worked great
for me!
Could you please try with a fresh installation of Intrepid?
Workaround: use Tracker.
