I think the crashes are gone. I changed my xorg.conf settings and experienced
no more crashes.
Here is my device section (one of the commented lines must have caused the
problem):

(and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've

I had nvidia driver 180, and it crashed from time to time. With 177.82
it crashed on konsole start. With 173 it crashed automatically. I will
now try 96 series

Have the same. First on starting konsole with Alt+F2, now on trying to start
kontact. If I start konsole from an xterm, it works. Here is the backtrace I
got from Xorg.0.log:

if i try to switch of compositing it seems to be more stable while
working. But if i try to log in again (for example on the next day) i
even cannot log into KDE again! I have to enable compositing again (or
delete the kwinrc file) to be able to log into KDE again.

could you try to switch off compositing by entering in
.kde/share/config/kwinrc:

** Description changed:
The X Server (i think it's the x server that crashes) crashes at random
times while im working with KDE. When the session crashes, the screen
become black and the user login screen from kdm appears (like when i'm
pressing CTRL-ALT-Backspace).
It occurs mostly w
