I've just installed the updated version from Debian and it functions
fine *if you configure the app correctly*. I've written a tutorial that
deals with getting this app under control (and automated) under Ubuntu

I have uploaded a fix for this problem to Debian a couple of days ago. I
guess you can safely install the Debian package on Ubuntu.
