Just to reiterate, this problem did not occur on my laptop before
Intrepid Ibex (I've been dual-booting since 6.06).

This behaviour still exists when dual-booting with 10.04/WinXP. The
workaround, as I've mentioned above, is to disconnect my laptop from
*ALL* power sources (inc. the battery) for a few seconds, before booting
into Windows.

Hi.
I have Windows 7, my notebook is Asus pro5DI series, my eternet adapter:
Realtec PCIe GBE Family Controller.
Today in the morning I downloaded Wubi to install Ubuntu 10.04. Installation

i had this same issue with 9.04 wubi, wired network with ubuntu, and
none with XP (a network cable is unplugged)... i freaked out, and
removed ubuntu, and still had no network in xp (i have 2 xp installs on
this box)... i read the posts here, and unplugged the power to the box
in question for a bit
I'd like to confirm that this behaviour has continued into 9.04 (and as
I mentioned above, it began with 8.10).
I am very willing to help out in whatever capacity you require. Just
please let me know what you need from me!

IanW, I attached a lspci-vnn.log in my original post. I still
experience this problem in Ubuntu 8.10 every time I reboot into Windows
XP. Is there anything else you need?

First post here, apologies if I'm not providing all of the necessary
info. Please let me know what you need and I'll do my best to provide

I've been using Ubuntu on my laptop (Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M7400) since

Apologies; the PC on which Ubuntu was installed has broken down
irretrievably (hardware fault), so I am unable to proceed with
analysing this issue.

Adam,
If you are uncomfortable updating your router's firmware, then just
please answer the other questions. A clear understanding of this
behavior and your hardware is essential to determine if it's an Ubuntu
bug that can be fixed, an ethernet card issue that Ubuntu can't fix, or
a router issue t

because I have heard it can kill the router if anything goes wrong;

Hi, I'm experiencing the same problem. I found I have to power off the

motherboard and the integrated network card even when the main power is

Thanks for the information. Your model number is F5D7633. There seems to
be a firmware update available for your model on the Belkin website.
1) Please update your router's firmware and see if that cures the
problem.

2) What happens if you reboot into Windows (losing connectivity)
Ian,
I cannot see any model number or name on the router; I attach a
picture of it for info (back-to-front because it was taken on a Mac
iSight camera!). The only words on the front are "Belkin ADSL Modem
with High-Speed Mode Wireless-G Router".

Adam,
What's the *model* of the router? It should be printed on the router.
Also, please log into the router and let us know what firmware version it's
running.
(please don't include the entire thread in your response - it creates a
great deal of noise in the bug report)

It's a Belkin Wireless Router with 802.11g, and two aerials. Pretty
commonplace. It is connected to the PC by ethernet cable.

Hi Ian,
I tried this but still have the same problem. What happens is that,
as part of the logout process from Ubuntu, I see the connection light
on the router go out - regardless of whether it is a reboot or
complete power off and restart. Windows is then unable to reconnect.

Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better.
Instead of rebooting into Windows, could you please try completely
powering down, pause a moment, and then restart into Windows? A few
ethernet cards out there will give a bogus 'disconnected' upon reboot
instead of completely powering off.
