To remove old kernels, first check for the installed kernel with the command:
dpkg -l "linux-image-*"|grep "^ii"
It should give you something like:
ii linux-image-2.6.27-5-generic

I'm marking this report as dup of bug 291381 . The workaround up to now
is to purge your old unused kernels to free some space. Depending on
your partition size you can install up to BOOT_SIZE/12MB kernels.

The upgrade-manager counts 12MB / kernel and you have 8 kernels
installed/upgraded that's around 100MB.
What is the size of /boot ? Could you please provide the output of the
following command:
df -P /boot
