I now have the same issue, Updated from 8.10 ( sound working ) to 9.04.
All packages are latest.
Alsa mixer shows the channels are 100.

I also have this problem after the last set of updates
(0.9.14-0ubuntu8). Exactly the same as Mangloid, except with a fresh
install from Alpha 4.

Sami, it's probably best to open a new bug report for your issue.
Upgrading to alsa-utils 1.0.18-1ubuntu3 fixed the problem for the
reporter, so if you are sure you have this version and you have
rebooted,
peternix: could you try to open a console and look if alsamixer -c 0
shows some muted channels?

running alsamixer -c 0, and looking at [Playback]:
Master: 100 [db gain=0.00]
Headphone: off
PCM: 00 [dB gain=-58.50, -58.50]
Mic: 00 [dB gain=-34.50, -34.50]
Mic Boost: 00
IEC958: 100 [dB gain=0.00, 0.00]
