I had this same problem and found that I had to set
mail.password_protect_local_cache to false in the Config Editor to get
Thunderbird to remember passwords between sessions. Looking at the
Password Manager, usernames show when
mail.password_protect_local_cache is true and the site is "ximap", but
I also experience a related issue. I have a POP3 account and a Gmail
account via IMAP. Apparently, when the connection to the IMAP server has
been lost and restored again, it keeps asking for the password even
though it has been saved via the password manager. I use no master
password and have no d

Please drop the extensions and try with new profile and see if you can
reproduce this bug. I cant reproduce it using 2.0.0.18 and above with only
enigmail extension.
the webmail extensions have caused simular and/or same as you. Please also let
us know if you use master password option in tbird
