Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

I'm new at bug reporting, so let me know if I'm doing it wrong.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 under VMware with universe multiverse and
backports enabled. I have version "2.24.0-0ubuntu3" installed to match
the dbgsym package, but the newest version (ubuntu3.2) does the same
thing.

# grep Driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf
        Driver "kbd"
        Driver "vmmouse"
        Driver "vmware"

I've attached a backtrace using gdb, but I'm not sure it worked
correctly. I installed the dbgsym package for gnome-settings-daemon, but
gdb didn't load it automatically, and after using "symbolfile" at the
gdb prompt it didn't seem to give much extra information.

I get the randr error (as below), but disabling the xrandr extension
from gconf-editor doesn't prevent a crash. 'xrandr' isn't working.

# xrandr -v
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display "127.0.0.1:1.0".
RandR extension missing

I submitted a report using apport, but don't know how to find it and
link it here.
