Hi, sorry to bump an old thread. I've been getting having the same problem - unmount but can't eject. It mostly happens if a program has trouble and crashes but not always. This one was after trying to read a cd via VMWare Player 3 on Ubuntu Jaunty. VMWare couldn't read it and shut down cleanly,

I also get this bug. I use cdparanoia for any cd ripping. Insert CD, do nothing, press eject button, and out the tray comes. However, do any ripping, and I can't eject unless I do a sudo eject /dev/cdrom. Let me know what I should attach, or what I should test further. -- CD won't eject

Ejected, put it back in, and ejected again. It worked. I opened Exaile, tried to eject, didn't work. Unmounted, it worked. Repeated, only this time with Sound Juicer. Same happened. So apparently it is a bug with the eject command, or th gnome-mount package. ** Changed in: eject (Ubuntu)
