Was just having a very similar issue. I tried sudo eject /dev/sr0
/dev/cdrom /dev/cdrw, it wasn't mounted. As soon as I closed exaile, it
worked properly again.

Thanks all for the info. Can someone write up exact reproduction steps,

CD won't eject
Hi, sorry to bump an old thread. I've been getting having the same
problem - unmount but can't eject. It mostly happens if a program has
trouble and crashes but not always. This one was after trying to read a
cd via VMWare Player 3 on Ubuntu Jaunty. VMWare couldn't read it and
shut down cleanly,
one more...
r...@tintin:/home/tgraham# eject -v /dev/sr0
eject: device name is `/dev/sr0'
eject: expanded name is `/dev/sr0'
eject: `/dev/sr0' is not mounted
eject: `/dev/sr0' is not a mount point
eject: `/dev/sr0' is not a multipartition device
eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr0' using CD-ROM
Here's the cd info from proc that petski asked for.

I also get this bug. I use cdparanoia for any cd ripping. Insert CD, do
nothing, press eject button, and out the tray comes. However, do any
ripping, and I can't eject unless I do a sudo eject /dev/cdrom.
Let me know what I should attach, or what I should test further.

I might have an idea :)
Could one of you guys make a so-called strace
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Strace) to see what happens under water? Too,
some information in /proc/sys might be useful.
$ strace -Ff -tt eject /dev/cdrom 21 | tee /tmp/strace-eject.txt
$ grep . /proc/sys/dev/cdrom/*
Okay, thanks for the testing. This doesn't seem to be trivial.
Are there any entries in the syslog if you try to eject and it doesn't work?
Maybe set to Ubuntu since we don't know what package causes the bug?

If you have windows installed, does it eject with it? I mean, is the drive
mechanically working properly, is it only a software problem?
What gives a eject -v?
Setting to incomplete.

CD won't eject
I don't have Windows installed, but the cd drive was ejecting before.
eject -v
eject: using default device `cdrom'
eject: device name is `cdrom'
eject: expanded name is `/dev/cdrom'
eject: `/dev/cdrom' is a link to `/dev/scd0'
eject: `/dev/scd0' is not mounted
eject: `/dev/scd0' is not a mount
I also tried reinstalling eject and gnome-mount, but it didn't do
anything.

Strange. Does it eject via button on the tray before ubuntu gets loaded
(immediately after you turn on your computer)?

It worked, and now it works after ubuntu is loaded. I'll try opening a
few programs and see why it might have happened.

So I opened Banshee music player and then closed it. Then whenever I tried to

Ejected, put it back in, and ejected again. It worked. I opened Exaile, tried
to eject, didn't work. Unmounted, it worked.
Repeated, only this time with Sound Juicer. Same happened. So apparently it is
a bug with the eject command, or th gnome-mount package.
