Correction above. All that's need to get to boot is noapic. All the
cores to my CPU are back. Attaching a screen shot of apic=debug.
Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to capture all the text as it
scrolls rather quickly.

I'm recently getting a very similar problem in 10.10. Previous kernel
6.2.32-25 boots fine. Kernel panic occurs when booting to 6.2.35-22.
Booting succeeds with these options: "noapic nolapic acpi=off
pci=noacpi" Of course, with these options enabled, I can only make use
of one out of my 4 cores.
I can confirm that there is still a problem on 9.10, To be completely
open, my machine now has a Radion graphics card installed compared to
when I first noticed this problem.
With 9.10 default settings the machine now boots (with defaults) OK but
once the desktop appears there is no mouse. In fac
I downloaded the latest daily build, and tried to boot it. When I boot
with no parameters, within a second or two all activity stops, and all I
have is a blinking cursor in the top left corner of the screen. Trying
again with noapic, I can boot. My experience (across multiple releases

Sam, thank you for verifying this. I wonder if you would mind running
the same test against the development branch of Lucid?
Thanks!

With Intrepid, I am working "mostly" fine with noapic on a 1680x1050
monitor; audio and networking work fine, as well as access to an NTFS
file system.
On a large build I get random errors that go away simply by reissuing
the make command and make starts up from where it left off and
continues. I
I'm getting the same problem. When I select the noapic the PC boots up
OK. However, the screen size is a default 4:3 aspect ratio (and my panel

Yes, I saw this error with the LiveCD version of jaunty alpha 3.
If there are things people would like me to try this weekend, I'll
install kernels, gather data, and report back. Just let me know.

Hi Guys,
Just curious if you also see this with the most recent pre-release of
Jaunty 9.04 (currently Alpha3) -
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/ . It contains a newer 2.6.28
based kernel.

I installed Ubuntu 8.10 (2.6.27-9-generic) and am seeing this exact
error. I can get further with noapic, but I get corrupted files when I
use rsync -- possibly an interrupt issue? I also tried Jaunty alpha3
live CD, and Fedora 10 with the same results.
If someone can suggest data I can capture
I was going to install - dual boot with XP but when I encountered this
problem I didn't pursue any further. I did not want to risk a broken
machine. However, if it is safe to install, I will do so and then I'm
happy to try out a new kernel. I won't get around to doing anything
until the weekend ear
Hi Roger,
I'm curious if you've only been testing with a LiveCD or if you've gone
ahead and installed? The reason I ask is there are some newer kernels
that I'd be interested in having you test that are not available at the
moment via a LiveCD. The 2.6.27-9.19 kernel is available as an update
an
