This may be related to bug 211193 (scim can't input chinese word in flash). Whenever scim is running (even in "English keyboard" mode), I cannot enter any text at all in flash forms. Maybe you want to try for yourself at http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/flash_php_email.htm (some random URL I googled for purpose of illustration). I believe "gdmflexiserver -n" and virtualbox are also negatively affected. The keyboard stops to work inside those apps, too, when scim is running.
