Public bug reported: Hello! I'm running Intrepid (up-to-date) on a computer with an nVidia 9600 GT video card.
When I boot with the 'vga=ask' and I tell the prompt to display available video modes, I get a big list which includes at the end 0x037D which corresponds to 1920x1200 (the native resolution of my display). If I choose it there it seems to work correctly: the whole boot process goes on at that resolution. However, I can't seem to find a way to enter it in the kernel command line so that it's picked automatically. I tried both "vga=0x37d" and "vga=037d", and a few other versions. No matter what, the boot goes on in 1280x1024 (or something like that, I can check and update it if it's necessary). #uname -a Linux mabelode 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 22:15:32 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux This was run after booting with 'vga=ask' and choosing 0x37d at the prompt: $ sudo fbset mode "1920x1200-77" # D: 230.415 MHz, H: 94.743 kHz, V: 77.404 Hz geometry 1920 1200 1920 1200 32 timings 4340 240 32 16 4 240 4 rgba 8/16,8/8,8/0,8/24 endmode Even in this case there's a tiny problem: the monitor claims that 60Hz is the "recommended" refresh rate, and the mode by default seems to be 77Hz. I seem to remember vesafb can't change refresh rates, and it doesn't seem to bother the screen any, so it's not a very big deal. I'm not sure what other info might be necessary, just ask. I've searched quite a bit on the net and I can't seem to find any relevant information... ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- can't set 0x37d as default video mode on nvidia https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/304962 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
