I fixed a similar problem like this:
- Add to /etc/cups/cupsd.conf:
FileDevice yes
- Use this URI to connect to the printer:
file:/dev/usb/lp0

something useful on a request for the device ID, as the CUPS backend
identifies printers based on the device ID, as with more than one
printer connected it is not guaranteed which one gets which

This "dirty" fix works in a similair environment in Karmic.
