I do confirm the problem with Ubuntu 8.10 (2.6.27-11-generic). My HP
6530b laptop has a BCM5787 interface and the tg3 driver freezes once
every other time after resume)

Same laptop, same problem.
on rmmod tg3, things lock up for several seconds.. dmesg:
[28632.748272] tg3: tg3_abort_hw timed out for eth0, TX_MODE_ENABLE will
not clear MAC_TX_MODE=
[28528.865765] tg3: eth0: No firmware running.

After adding this script to /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d and putting it so it runs
after 10NetworkManager (ie. calling it 11fixg3):

I am of course obliged to modprobe tg3
