I checked out the Adobe Flash plugin - I had version 10.0.15.something
installed.
After downloading the latest for Linux (10.0.22.87) and installing via debconf,
it didn't seem to get installed. So I ran update manager and updated 309
various packages, one of which included the Adobe
It's still happening. :-)
I'm using FF 3.0.5 under Ubuntu 8.10 and upgraded to flashblock 1.5.8,
at which point youtube videos would not play after clicking on the
play icon provided by flashblock - the viewport simply cleared to all
black and stayed that way. I upgraded to flashblock 1.5.9 and

@ismoore999: you can do that already, that package doesn't stop you. and

just install firefox + flashblock when you're on an older pc. therefore

Is there any reason why this is packaged with Ubuntu? there are
thousands of add-ons but only a handful that are packaged.
Would it not make more sense that these be removed from the Ubuntu
packaging system and that users allow the browser to add and maintain
the compatibility of firefox add-ons?
I was experiencing this issue as well. I installed the latest
flashblock from Jaunty, and now the problem has changed. If I go to
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ the shockwave object displays a
flashblock play button, however the flash object does not. Instead,
it shows a blank flash
also seeing this with latest firefox update an flashblock from the
repos.
