I have a similar problem with Radeon HD 4850. Restricted driver
installation eventually fails, complaining that the jockey backend
failed.

I am not quite sure what you mean. Which dialog box? In the Hardware
Drivers window there is nothing to tick, only a button to activate the
driver. If I click on the thingy in front of the drivers name, nothing
happens.
I have attached a screenshot. For some reason, now the ATI driver isn't

Confirm that the restricted driver is ticked in the dialog box? It's
unclear whether or not you have done that.
