For most actions, it is not possible to temporarily elevate privileges, for 
example if the user attempts to save to a directory to which he/she does not 
have access rights there is no prompt to enter temporary super-user mode.

The above example affects the GTK file save dialog, however there are
numerous other examples, such as the nautilus file manager (copying
files to a directory without access privileges).

The desired behaviour is as seen when using the synaptic update manager
- i.e. any user is able to browse available applications, however when
super-user privileges are required (in order to install/un-install the
application) the user is prompted for a password.
