Public bug reported:
For most actions, it is not possible to temporarily elevate privileges, for example if the user attempts to save to a directory to which he/she does not have access rights there is no prompt to enter temporary super-user mode. The above example affects the GTK file save dialog, however there are numerous other examples, such as the nautilus file manager (copying files to a directory without access privileges). The desired behaviour is as seen when using the synaptic update manager - i.e. any user is able to browse available applications, however when super-user privileges are required (in order to install/un-install the application) the user is prompted for a password. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome does not promote user privileges on an as-needed basis. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/311962 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
