After filling the paste buffer with something else (copying from the
text) the application regains normal speed.
To trigger the bug, one can also open the Save As dialog, copy a
character from the file name (ctrl-A is not needed), and then close the
dialog with Cancel (actually saving anything is
I tried running a gcore on it while it was hanging, but I am not sure it was
successful:

This can be reproduced on Intrepid as well (2.4.1-11ubuntu2). When
trying to paste the filename into the document it hangs for a few
seconds and nothing is inserted. Even when typing normal text the
response is really slow. As Tormod said, normal behaviour is restored by
copying something else.
