This still appears in Edgy. In bug 59210, which seems to be a duplicate
of this bug, it is stated that this has been fixed in Java 1.6:
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6376296 (currently,
the Sun bugtracker sadly times out)
** Summary changed:
- java applet - firefox 1.5.0.1
I removed pkgs sun-java5-bin, sun-java5-demo, sun-java5-fonts, sun-java5-jdk,
sun-java5-jre, sun-java5-plugin.
I removed /etc/java and /etc/java-1.5.0-sun/
Downloaded Sun's jdk-1_5_0_09-linux-i586.bin, extracted to /opt
cd /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins
sudo ln -s
Same problem here.
firefox 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-ubuntu0.6.06
sun-java5-plugin 1.5.0-06-1
Caused by: java.io.IOException: open HTTP connection failed.
Java is failing to load the applet over HTTP it seems. Normal browsing works
fine, so http port 80 is working.
