During the playback reported in the log file the bug in question showed
up in full extent: I played two tunes, the counter for the first one was
updated correctly, while the counte

Yes, the bug is reproducible. It affects all albums in my collection -
every last track in the album has the counter set to "Never".
To reproduce the bug set the view so it includes the "times played"
column in the tracks part of main rhythmbox window and play some album.
