Good catch Tim!! Edward can you download the alternate iso here: http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.10/ when this page loads go down to the section Alternate Install CD and select the .iso for your architecture. If you have a standard 32-bit machine you can use:

According to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements#Desktop%20installation, recommended minimum requirements for graphical installation include 384 MB of system memory (RAM) . Even for XUbuntu, it is stated that 192Mb RAM is required for installation from the LiveCD.
