i get the same error after vlc upgrade
im using ubuntu 8.10 intrepid ibex with all updates applied...
here is the output of the terminal ...

I have the same problem.
I could play flv files before upgrading vlc to version 0.9.4 through
update manager.
The packages that were installed were:
vlc-data (0.9.4-1ubuntu3)
libvlccore0 (0.9.4-1ubuntu3)
libvlc2 (0.9.4-1ubuntu3)
vlc-nox (0.9.4-1ubuntu3)
vlc (0.9.4-1ubuntu3)
