I have an Gigabyte P35-DS4 Mainboard with an Onboard RTL8111/8168B PCI Express
Gigabit Ethernet controller.
This bug exists for me at least since feisty. Currently I'm running the Jaunty
kernel and as soon as I set the MTU above
2250 all transfers in the LAN freeze, all Internet traffic works
Thanks David. Yes, if you'd be willing to test the Jaunty kernel within
your Intrepid installation that'd be great.

Hi David,
Just in case you'd be willing to test, you may want to try the latest
pre-release of Jaunty (currently Alpha3) -
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/ . It contains a 2.6.28 based
kernel. It would be nice to know if this issue still exists in the
upcoming release. Thanks.

I'm not able to try the Jaunty prerelease yet, but perhaps upgrading the
kernel from that release would be useful? That much I could do.
