I used to use ICQ and it had a setting where IM's would be sent and the
IM chat window would be closed after sending it. Then when someone
responded the chat window wouldn't open up but instead it would just
show a notification in the bottom side of the screen, you click it,
message pops up, you reply and the window automatically closed.
I liked the feature a lot and I think it would be a great addition to
Pidgin. It makes chatting somewhat like sending quick emails plus it is
a bit more discrete than the normal method of having a window constantly
open.
