Public bug reported:

Hi, I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 with all of the latest updates:

Kernel: 2.6.27-11-generic
Driver: nvidia-glx-173

So, the other day I changed my graphics card from an old Radeon 7200 to
GeForce 5500. When at first I boot up Ubuntu, it would freeze and not go
into Gnome. So I had to login from command line and use 'sudo startx',
then install the driver through the Restricted Drivers program. However
following that, my computer would just freeze (well usplash would) at
about 1/8th of the way) Although I could still change to the first getty
with Alt+F1, I couldn't really do anything. Ctrl-Alt-Delete wouldn't
work, and even Caps Lock wouldn't turn on. Had to do a hard reset. After
many failures, I discovered that I could finally boot into Ubuntu (with
no problems afterwards) if I had Caps Lock on during the load of the
hardware drivers. But honestly, I don't really like that and I think
this bug should be fixed.

I couldn't really find anything relevant in the System Log, but if you
need more information, feel free to ask.

Thanks in advance,
