I feel really dumb for not trying this earlier, but in my case I was
able to resolve the issue by disabling a Firefox addon called
Flashblock.

I'm new to all of this but maybe my input can help. I have Ubuntu 8.04
and firefox 3.0 fully updated as of today. I am having the same issue,
flash does not work on sites such as you tube and sites with flash
intros, however most flash advertisements do work. I have tried using
the proprietary
