This bug was solved by the following changes :
sudo aptitude install nvidia-glx-180
which installs the last version 180.29 of the nvidia driver
followed by an update which includes (at least) the package
nvidia-180-modaliases (180.29-0ubuntu1) to 180.29-0ubuntu2
So the bug should be considered as
Right, the new -180 nvidia driver was uploaded to jaunty now, a version
that actually works with our current X.org server now. Thank you!
